When we’re small we know that, but when we get older we forget.
It’s crazy how a couple of $15 Nerf guns brought so many beautiful moments to my life. We’ve started to just shoot and hide everywhere. Then we started to organize battles, rules, tactical maneuvers, timers, team missions… It’s insane. I’ve even practiced on my own with empty bottles because it was so much fun. (And because I wanted to kick ass)
One of the most fun things from the good old clubs days was definitely trolling. I’d routinely try to convince people that I actually run a cat circus, and that the final stunt is a cat jumping through a flaming ring of fire. I’d also steal limes from bartenders and give them as gifts to random people. I almost died of laughter when one of my friends literally ate a bouquet of roses instead of giving it to a girl… So much fun.
Even at work. The other day we had a monthly call. Very serious you know. Whole team of 35 people gathered and we talked serious stuff. And then all of a sudden…an alpaca joins our call. A fricking alpaca! We used to call our internal training library the “pimp library” and lots of times instead of good work you hear GG. Any special reason? Nope, just fun!
I still try to take time to play computer games every now and then. I really love Magic the Gathering. When I used to edit videos the projects were named “stupid 3-set ZZZ boring DONE 3.0” or something equally weird. I tried opening a coconut on the beach with a stone the other day (and miserably failed).
The point is, fun is good. You don’t need money for it. You don’t even need other people (although it can help). You just need to stop being so serious and allow yourself to become goofy. And to fail. And to laugh at yourself.
Don’t be too serious in life. You’re not getting out alive anyway.
P.S. What’s your favorite toy?
