Why do we punish our body as a reward?

I woke up in Tenerife, a Canary Island gem and frankly a paradise in the Atlantic ocean… but with a terrible numbing headache, and at 7.30am.

So why am I in Tenerife, what’s up with the crazy headache (no, I’m not sick), and why I’m writing all this? Let’s backtrack a little.

I had an amazing evening yesterday. Chilled with a special girl, had sisha and a few drinks, a midnight walk on the beach and something kinda wild after…

Then I woke up early today (I had an alarm cus wanted to put in some hustle) but there was something off.

CRAZY headache.

I felt like some dude is standing on the top of my head with a pneumatic drill and going beastmode.

I didn’t get it. Why? I’m a healthy mofo, I’m hitting the gym, I’m eating clean, I sleep like a baby. Like seriously, pain and disease are NOT a part of my reality.

And then I remembered… Ahh Shisha (hookah). Carbon monoxide might have something to do with the headache. Oh, what about the 2 Singapore Slings (gin, brandy and some more crap)? And finish off with a barraquito (decaf coffee, liquor). At least yesterday eve I didn’t have a 3-course meal before that.

So basically I am in paradise, I have pretty much everything I want, and YET, I want to make that “feel good” feeling even stronger by grabbing “rewards” that literally contain poisons and carcinogens.

WTF !?

A personal experience, and probably not at the high end of the spectrum in terms of intensity. People go WAY more beast-mode lol. But think about it. Why do we reward ourselves like this?

After a big day, or stage of life, or something significant. Why don’t we treat ourselves to a spa retreat with some clean food? Maybe a detox juice after or something. Or a day without a phone, just yourself in peace left to contemplate stuff.

No. We get facking wasted. We smoke. We take drugs. We became experts in raising the “feel good levels” so high, that we’re BOUND to crash like a mofo the next day. Physically and mentally.

I really don’t get it.

I know a part of the reason for me is that I’m under a lot of pressure daily. I mean, running a startup biz is definitely not walking on sunshine. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE it, and wouldn’t trade it for anything right now, but it IS stressful.

Smoking a green one after a long day really does wonders in terms of chilling you out and turning all the operations into chill, at least for the eve.

But a part of me is like. “Really, is this the best stress-coping you can come up with?”

Anyway, not offering a solution here. Just asking questions.

If you want to share something, please do. Let’s just NOT go into preaching “you should do this, or that”. Fack that.

And now I’m gonna hustle a bit, and then off to enjoy the sun – without getting wasted this time LOL.
