Life Out Of A Suitcase

Life Out Of A Suitcase (2min read time)

Whenever I leave to go travel again, my friends and family usually say the same thing, in one way or another:

“You´ve really got the guts. To just pack everything you have in a suitcase and go, that´s crazy.”

My faithful companion pictured in my old flat in London, at the beginning of one of the biggest adventures of my life.

But the reality is, I don´t have any more guts than the regular person. It´s a clear strategy, actually easier and provides more ROI (return on investment). Traveling makes me learn exponentially faster, it gives me network.

It also makes life cheaper – often times, I don´t need to pay rent. When I do, I make sure I negotiate a great deal. And I can always influence that, since I can always fly off to some cheap Eastern European country and just live there.

It gives me a very nice life style, for not a lot of money. I´m guessing I´ve been spending about 500-1000$ a month for the past few years, including all expenses. Weekly or monthly fights, a few months of rent here and there, travels, food, fun. All of it.

Lived in 4 countries for more than 6 months already, visited about 30.

It´s a dope lifestyle, and cheap. And there is exponential possibility to earn more money, meet more potential partners, grow more, do more, give more. It´s just a better option. Not to mention, it´s freeing as well. I don’t have to worry about my possessions. It´s quite easy, I just have as much as I can pack into that 1 suitcase (or two).

I spent the best winter of my life this year. Barcelona. If you´ve never lived in a both very cold (Lithuania) and very warm (Spain) country during the winter, you can´t imagine what I´m talking about. But the quality of life is just so much better. Sunbathing (which only gives me freckles and no tan) in December is crazy.

Mobility is very freeing. I don´t like something, I pack it. I mean, obviously, you learn to realize you need roots too. You should visit people you care about regularly. Otherwise you are a friend to none. As always, there´s different sides of the coin, it´s all subjective, and depends largely on perspective.

But what I wanted to say is, I don´t consider myself especially brave to live out of a suitcase at the moment. I believe in adventures as rapid-life improvement catalyst, therefore, I´m doing the exactly perfect thing to help me grow the most in the shortest period of time.

It´s never been easier to travel. So go and do it. Or don´t. Stay comfortable, until doubt and fear harden your skin and heart, and you finally become immune to the call of adventure.

Choice is yours.

Peace,
Bostjan
